• The López Obrador administration has an alternative plan for developing lithium that apparently would see private firms carry out part of the exploration of the mineral, according to a document reportedly obtained by the Mexican daily El Heraldo de México.
• That plan consists of hiring foreign companies for exploration in at least 82 locations in the country, reported the outlet. Such a plan reflects the importance Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) has given to lithium development following its legal nationalization in April, excluding compliant concessions already granted which are allowed to continue to operate as is. It also suggests the administration may be willing to take a pragmatic approach to develop potential lithium resources in Mexico. The nationalization law and creation of national lithium company LitioMx in August established state entities as the main players in the industry.
