AMLO's Isthmus of Tehuantepec Interoceanic Corridor may be losing steam

PROJECT BACKGROUND   

Of all the so-called “megaprojects” launched under Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Inter-Oceanic Corridor has the longest history and the highest potential for economic transformation to the country.  

It also faces the same problems previous administrations going back 50 years have attempted to resolve, and even AMLO’s unmatched support among indigenous and rural populations may not save every aspect of the ambitious plan with community opposition and continued funding both causing problems.
